12. Photographs of Peal Boards
Judith Williamson, the Guild Librarian, is collecting photographs of peal boards, so the Guild have a record.
13. Any Other Business
Sibsey
The bells are currently un-ringable due to an internal chimney stack in the tower, that has been deemed unsafe. The bells will be ringable again once the stack has been removed. A quote of £2000 for this work has been received.
Stickney
The treble is still un-ringable. The tower captain has been ill recently, but hopes to look at the bell soon.
Bennington
The church is not used and is currently for sale, it is hoped that a community project will be set up there. There is a ring of 6 bells in the tower, the ropes have been removed and are being stored at The Stump. A final decision has yet to be made regarding the future of the building. The DAC are aware of the situation and it is very unlikely that anything will happen during 2007.
Hemingby
The local ringers have asked if someone could look at the bells and fittings at Hemingby and offer advice to the local ringers.
Baumber
The bells are on the floor of the tower, the tower and frame are not in a condition to re-install the bells without considerable cost. It is likely that they will remain unringable in the future.
New Guild Website
The secretary has received a letter from John Ketteringham outlining a proposed Guild website. The Guild committee are due to discuss this issue at their next meeting.
Guild Six Bell Competition
The secretary read out a letter from Sue Faull, the Guild Master. The Guild Committee would like to remind ringers that the competition was started with the aim to improve the quality of Sunday service ringing. Therefore, the competition band should be made up of as many of the tower's Sunday service band as possible. Where a group of churches has one band that serves several churches, a joint band may enter. The spirit of the competition is important. Whilst healthy competition is a good thing, trying to win at all cost is not popular with most ringers. Bands should aim to ring something that will challenge them, whilst not compromising the striking. The period of time between the branch competition and the finals, should allow bands to practice.
Guild Eight Bell Trophy
It has been suggested that a trophy be awarded for the winners of the Inter Branch 8 Bell Comp., no suggestions were forthcoming. The secretary asked the members to contact her before 9th Feb 2007 if they had suggestions or comments and she would put them to the Guild committee.
Simulator Project
David Collin reported that the single 'Womble unit' was now complete and was easy to construct, it is hoped that the six bell frame would soon be completed. The secretary added that a grant from 'Awards for All' of £8,600 had been given to the project and there was now apporx. £10,000 in the fund. Philip Green was sorting out the graphics and a professional photographer would be taking pictures for the displays. The Womble unit will be at Bicker on 7th and 8th Sept 2007.
Annual Report Layout
The layout of the report is being discussed, and it is hoped that all the tower information will be in one place. It was asked that the page of weekly practice nights be kept.
Diamond Wedding Anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip
Joan Simpson mentioned that it is the 60th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip on 20th November 2007. The secretary mentioned that if anyone wished to arrange some special ringing to mark the occasion, then the information could be collected and sent to the 'Ringing World' as one item.
14. Vote of thanks
Tom Freeston offered a vote of thanks to Rev. Chris Keys for allowing us to ring the bells and for taking the service, to Rhoda Reynolds for all the local arrangements. He thanked Paul Meyer for playing the organ and Rhoda and all her helpers for the wonderful tea.
The raffle raised £32.50
The BRF collection £22.21
